West Nile

These little guys are causing havoc in Dallas/Ft Worth area.  I usually only posts about the girls and family, but I wanted to document this for the girls in their books.  I'll be interested to see what comes out of it in 10-20 years.

Below is from the Dallas Morning News about the West Nile Virus.

North Texas’ West Nile epidemic is infecting more people per capita in Tarrant County than in Dallas, though fewer serious cases have been reported.
But the virus has claimed a much higher death toll in Dallas County than in surrounding counties. Ten of the 14 deaths in the region have been Dallas County residents.
The mosquitoes in Dallas County are not necessarily more lethal. But Dallas County has seen a higher incidence of the more severe neuro-invasive type of the virus, which may cause meningitis, encephalitis and paralysis, and can have a higher mortality rate. About 55 percent of the 242 reported cases in Dallas have been neuro-invasive.
The less serious West Nile fever tends to affect younger patients and has been the predominant form of the illness in Tarrant County. Only about 29 percent of the 199 reported cases in Tarrant have been neuro-invasive.
